The Club’s Community Trust is expanding into new projects and now includes further education courses and opportunities for young people to work with the Club’s coaches.

On his visit on Friday (1 August 2014), Rehman met Alan Dennington, Business Development Consultant, and Darren Hare, Head of the Academy at the Club.

Rehman called in for a coffee at the Dementia Café in Parkwood on Tuesday (19 August 2014).

The Alzheimer’s Society runs three Dementia Cafes in Medway, which provide an opportunity for people to meet regularly and discuss the challenges of living with dementia.

Rehman spoke to a number of residents and learned how the Café helps them to cope when their lives become affected by the symptoms of dementia.

The Café provides information and practical tips on dementia and meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month between 1-3pm.

Rehman completed his ninth half marathon for a local charity on Monday (25 August 2014) raising hundreds of pounds.

Rehman completed his ninth half marathon for a local charity on Monday (25 August 2014) raising hundreds of pounds.

The local MP took part in the Canterbury half marathon to raise funds for Home-Start Medway, a charity which helps to support families during difficult times.

Thanks to a number of donations, including from the Gillingham Tesco store, Rehman managed to raise £500 to support the local charity.

Despite the challenging weather, Rehman completed the 13 mile run in his personal best time of 1 hour 33 minutes.

Responding to the announcement by the Airport Commission, Rehman said:
"I welcome the announcement today that the Airport Commission has ruled out shortlisting the Thames Estuary airport proposal.

"The independent Commission has listened to what we have been saying for many years; that it would be totally impractical, costly and would destroy important environmental sites.

Rehman attended the official opening of Napier Primary as an academy.

Today (4 September 2014) Rehman was delighted to attend the official opening of Napier Community Primary and Nursery school as an academy.

The School has now joined the Kemnel Academy Trust and is the latest school in Medway to become an academy.

Rehman said:
"I was delighted to attend the opening of Napier School as an academy, where I was once a student. I wish the school all the best for the future."

Rehman is calling on local budding entrepreneurs to consider applying for Start-Up Loans to get their businesses off the ground.

The Government backed scheme funds and mentors people looking to start their own business.

So far more than £285,000 of loans have been made to people in Medway, with fifteen entrepreneurs in Gillingham and Rainham having received more than £88,000, according to the latest figures.

Nationally, over 20,000 Start-Up Loans, worth more than £100million, have now been awarded.

Rehman paid tribute to staff during Hospital visit.

Rehman paid tribute to all the fantastic staff at Medway Maritime Hospital during his afternoon visit on Friday (3 October 2014).

Rehman met front line staff across the Hospital’s departments. He spoke to those working in A&E, Maternity Services and in the Patient Operative Care Unit and listened to their views on how the Hospital can be improved.

He also visited the Oliver Fisher Care Unit, which has previously been highlighted as an area of outstanding practice.

Rehman had the honour of switching on the Rugby club’s new floodlights on Friday.

Rehman had the honour of switching on the Rugby club’s new floodlights on Friday (3 October 2014).

Thanks to funding from Sport England and the Rugby Football Foundation, Gillingham Anchorians were able to raise £55,000 to replace their lights, which were very costly to maintain.

Rehman has previously raised the club’s successes in Parliament.

The Prime Minister told the House of Commons today (15 October 2014) that there had been a “huge advance” in reducing unemployment in Gillingham and Rainham, with the latest figures showing that it is down 36%.

He was responding to a question from Rehman, who asked the Prime Minister about the funding that Medway had received under the Growth Deal.

Medway’s Growth Deal, worth nearly £30m, will improve transport links and bring investment to the local area.

MPs, diplomats and special guests attended an event hosted by Rehman on Tuesday (21 October 2014) in honour of the former High Commissioner for Pakistan.

His Excellency Mr Wajid Shamsul Hasan, has now stood aside after six years of service in the UK, having begun his latest assignment in 2008. Previously he served from 1994-96.

Members of Parliament gave a vote of thanks to His Excellency for all the work he has done to forge stronger ties between Pakistan and the UK.

In Parliament (23 October), Rehman asked the Government to press the Pakistan authorities to urgently review the miscarriage of justice in the Asia Bibi case.

Rehman asked:
"The Leader of the House will know that I have previously raised the case of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of five children, who had been sentenced to death by the courts in Pakistan under its unacceptable blasphemy laws.
