In Parliament (21 October), Rehman met with Admiral Lord West, who has recently been appointed the patron of the Paddle Steamer.

They discussed funding options and a visit from Lord West to raise the profile of the Medway Queen.

Rehman has also recently written to the Culture Secretary, Sajid Javid MP, to see what support can be provided, to restore the Heroine of Dunkirk.

The Government has confirmed that the sites of three ships sunk during the First World War, where 1,459 Chatham based sailors drowned, are under consideration for protection.

The Government has confirmed that the sites of three ships sunk during the First World War, where 1,459 Chatham based sailors drowned, are under consideration for protection.

Local MP Rehman Chishti asked, on the floor of the House of Commons, for HMS Cressy, HMS Hogue and HMS Aboukir to be designated under the Protection of Military Remains Act.

These three ships were sunk on 22 September 1914 off the Dutch coast by enemy submarine action.

He has set up a petition, to ask the Government to designate HMS Cressy, HMS Hogue and HMS Aboukir under the Protection of Military Remains Act. These were lost off the Dutch coast and saw the loss of 1,459 Chatham based sailors.

Today (4 November 2014) a letter signed by more than fifty British Members of Parliament was presented to the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, calling for justice in the Asia Bibi case.

The former Bishop of Rochester, Bishop Michael Nazir Ali, and Rehman Chishti, MP for Gillingham and Rainham, handed over the letter signed by 54 MPs, to Mr Bhutto Zardari in London.

Rehman meets new UTC Principal Dr Karen Buck.

With Medway’s University Technical College (UTC) due to open next year, Rehman met with the recently appointed Principal, Dr Karen Buck, to learn more about its progress.

The UTC is designed for 14-19 year olds and will focus on providing pupils with engineering and construction skills.

Situated on the Chatham Waters site, the school has received funding for a new building and it is partnered with BAE Systems, MidKent College, University of Greenwich and Medway Council, along with other local firms.

Rehman today (4 December 2014) called for a new automatic refund scheme for commuters from Gillingham and Rainham.

Rehman wants Southeastern Trains to automatically refund their customers whenever they are delayed by a few minutes instead of the existing 30 minutes.

Under plans unveiled by the c2c franchise, delayed commuters in Essex are to automatically receive a refund if their journey is delayed by two minutes.

In Parliament, Rehman asked the Transport Secretary, Patrick McLoughlin MP, to encourage other franchises, including Southeastern, to follow their example.

With the help of the brilliant Head Coach, Dean, Rehman completed 400 metres in 1 minute 14 seconds.
